Book Cover Beauty

As the cliché goes, one shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. But just scanning the front page of The Book Cover Archive leaves a great impression of each book there. The archive is dedicated to the appreciation of the aesthetic beauty of book covers.

The front page currently features several covers from the Penguin paperback series of Don DeLillo’s novels that nicely capture a sense of the narrative behind the cover using only a few images–particularly the cover of White Noise.

The Book Cover Archive works more to feature the art of the cover designers than the art of the books’ authors. It is a fun place to appreciate the aesthetic beauty of the things that contain the ideas we very much love. It’s also a nice way for me to avoid bookstores (therefore avoiding buying more books) while satisfying my desire to see and appreciate books that I don’t yet own.
